Sustainable Urban Landscapes Symposium
Any municipal planner, landscape architect, green industry professional, and serious gardener will find this symposium a relevant and fascinating mix of topics given by leading experts. Kris Bachtell, recently retired from the Morton Arboretum, will give two talks. The first will be on the importance and protection of heritage trees in our communities. The second will discuss conservation of species via horticulture. Well respected garden communicator, Ed Lyon, will present an important two-part talk called: From Bringing Nature Home to the New Wild: A Balanced Perspective on Gardening for the Future. Dr. Mark Carroll from the University of Maryland will provide us with the science on the sustainability of turfgrasses. Our own Jerome Stenger will give us a fascinating report on the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden’s award-winning community gardens. And Adam Baker of Davey Resource Group will present on the potential of right of ways for providing habitat for wildlife.
